Cierra's life actually began in America where she was raised to be a very different person than she is today. Her parents were quite controlling and mostly made Cierra stay inside the house where she was left to read. When Cierra was seven, her life took an unexpected turn that made her look at the world in a whole new way. This turn was that her parents had died and that the only family she had that could take her in were located in another country. From then on, Cierra grew and changed as a person slowly but surely and eventually became the nineteen-year-old that was called in to teach Charms.

However, she apparently wasn't done with changing as life threw her the unexpected loop of having to violate her views of pacifism and kill somebody. After that, Cierra became a bit reclusive as she tried to cope with what she did, then decided that she had to leave so her irresponsibility couldn't affect the people that she grew attached to. To her great bewilderment, though, there was opposition to her leaving, some from people she hadn't even spoken with before then. Cierra reexamined her stance in life and realized that even if she did things that were wrong and even if bad things happened, they all helped make her who she is. She recovered (somewhat) from her depression and went back to teaching, but plainly doesn't like talking about what happened despite her odd bluntness.

Actually having something to come back to rather than just wandering the countryside doing experiments took some getting used to, but after nearly a year of staying at Hogwarts Cierra went back with the same positive outlook she's always had. That, however, is coupled with cautiousness so something like what happened in December doesn't have to happen again…and a better class plan so she's not just doing everything on the fly.
